Yoshi's SF Supports Local Songwriters and Bread & Roses

Songwriters Unplugged Showcase IV

and CD Release  - Yoshi's SF

Monday, May 30th

San Francisco’s home and hub for local songwriters continues with Songwriters Unplugged Showcase IV taking place on Monday 5/30 at the San Francisco Yoshi’s main stage. Among the featured performers on the CD are Bread & Roses musicians: Francesca Lee, Jeff Campbell, Megan Slankard and Garrin Benfield. It will be the fourth culminating event of an ongoing weekly series in Yoshi’s Lounge which, for the past 2 years, has featured over 200 local and national songwriters, and brought  this format to the Yoshi's main stage in March of 2010. Feeling like a family, working in a collective atmosphere, the Showcase has made the unplugged format into a combination of the 60's San Francisco folk movement and cutting edge modern songwriting.

The event, co-produced by Bay Vibes and Sonic Zen Records continues its tradition of honoring and supporting local songwriters by releasing “Songwriters Unplugged - Volume 1,” a compilation album of the best live recordings from previous events. Proceeds from the CD will be donated to a different local music non-profit every year, starting with BREAD & ROSES in 2011!

THE PROMISE, a documentary by Grammy- and Emmy-winning filmmaker Thom Zimny, combines never-before-seen footage of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band shot between 1976 and 1978 (including home rehearsals and studio sessions) with new interviews with Springsteen, E Street Band members, manager Jon Landau, former-manager Mike Appel, and others closely involved in the making of the 1978 album, Darkness on the Edge of Town.

Bruce Springsteen has requested that all showings of the nationally screened film benefit local non-profit film theatres and organizations.  This local screening of the documentary benefits Bread & Roses. All benefit screenings will include product giveaways, with audience members eligible to win "The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge of Town" BluRay, available in stores on May 3rd.
